INTERNATIONAL ORGAN COMPETITION 2009

To honour the memory of the distinguished Swiss organist Georges Cramer (1909-1981) – 2009 being the 100th anniversary of his birth –, the foundation bearing his name is organising the fifth international organ competition in the Abbey of Saint-Maurice d’Agaune (Switzerland).

For many years Georges Cramer was the church organist of Saint-François in Lausanne and will also remain an unforgettable master of the Conservatoire in the same town.

Through his outstanding teaching he handed down all the richness of both French and German traditions, which he had himself inherited from his masters William Montillet,Emile Blanchet, Otto Barblan.

Member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC).

This competition will be held at Saint-Maurice in Valais, Switzerland, from
Wednesday 12th to Saturday 22nd August 2009.

CHURCH ORGANS IN SAINT-MAURICE – SWITZERLAND

For this competition the town of Saint-Maurice has placed two instruments of excellent quality - built by Kuhn - at the organists disposal:

  • Abbey Church (built 1950):
    3 keyboards, 72 stops, mechanical traction assisted by Barker lever
     
  • Saint-Sigismond Church (built 2001):
    2 keyboards, 27 stops, mechanical traction.

These two remarkable instruments possess numerous electronic combinations. The competitors will thus play without assistance.

Competitors will be able to practise on pianos and church organs according to a pre-arranged schedule.
